Ambivalence
Oil on Canvas, 24” x 36”
This is such a special painting to me as it is one of my first portrait pieces exploring a Rembrandt stylistic approach. I love Rembrandt's work and his mastery of lighting.
This painting shows a girl struggling to find her way. So many challenges and obstacles to overcome that her slouch is just a part of her exhaustion. Dressed for show and unwilling to comply. So much as choosing a piece of fruit is daunting as there are no choices for this woman, only rules.
